Project 1- Haley Griffin

The object I have chosen to use for this project is a ceramic cat statue. This ceramic cat is representative of a common house cat, which is a pet that many people have. I was drawn to use this statue out of all the objects I saw because I have a pet cat myself. In having a cat as a pet I have found that there are often polarizing opinions about cats. Whenever I tell people about my pet, they either respond very positively or very negatively. People think cats are either calm and cuddly or aggressive and mean. With these contrasting opinions about cats, people looking at this ceramic cat can either feel joy or anger. For my sculpture project, I thought it would be interesting to look into the polarizing relationships that so many people have with house cats. In my project, I plan to show both these positive and negative opinions by depicting the cat as a “devil” or as an “angel”.
