I chose to work with an old perfume bottle. It was the first perfume I bought for myself. By definition, a perfume bottle is a vessel made to hold scent. I think it represents something romantic and positive and is usually one of the top gift options. It’s probably because perfume is associated with romantic relationships and strong affection. Plus, smells trigger strong memories. A specific perfume scent may remind you of a special memory or a particular period of time. From the appearance, a perfume bottle is usually made out of glass, which allows us to see the liquid inside, and creating a luxurious feeling.
I would like to create a project that relates scent to memory. I want to make the a series of replicas also transparent like glass, and adding memory elements inside the bottles, like snow globes. By doing so, I hope to convey to the audience about “scent & memory”, and how perfume is not only a commercialized product, but also a personal thing.
