After watching an hour of interviews with a variety of artists, there were some big themes and points that stood out to me. The main artists that I watched this time around were Pedro Reyes, Mika Rottenberg, and Robert Ryman. All three of these artists have a unique way of approaching sculpture, but utilizing unique ways of portraying the work. Reyes focuses his work on stone and metal sculpting, while Rottenberg focuses on using video and installation to get a message across. Seeing the direct difference between these static and dynamic sculpture works was very cool, and again showed me how wide the field of sculpture is. Finally, Ryman focused on the intersection of painting and sculpture, again another take on how visual art can be portrayed in 3D space. These interviews and artists have encouraged me to focus on using different materials and to examine the intersections between materials for my final sculpture project.
