Part 1: Writing Assignment
I am working with a ceramic house that was once used as a Christmas decoration with lights inside. I think the house denotes the comfort and familiarity that people associate with their homes. The house reminds me of safety and family. While the idea of having a home to come back to is very comforting, I think that some people can be tied down by the safety of their home, or their home towns, and end up not reaching their full potential. I want my project to rupture the common associations with a home. Rather than having the house represent something comfortable, I am exploring having various replicates of the home broken up into pieces, representing the house splitting up. I hope to represent the idea of breaking out of the familiar and exploring different aspects of life.
